How to make Vegetarian Recipe Original Falafel ?

Before you begin make sure:

  • Use Only Dried chickpeas and peeled (crushed) beans,  these are the important ingredient that will give your Vegetarian Recipe Original Falafel the right consistency and taste.
  • Soak chickpeas and beans in water for 24 hours.  make sure you cover them in plenty of water  this is important to help soften them as they soak. after 24 hours you will notice both The beans and chickpeas will at least double in size as they soak. When ready, drain both completely 
  • This recipe can be prepped and you can freeze uncooked falafel for later use. Bud don’t add baking powder on the falafel mixture, just before frying, you can add the baking powder to the Falafel mixture.

Vegetarian Recipe Original Falafel Ingredients 

  • A cup of dried beans (peeled or crushed beans). (Do NOT use canned or cooked)
  • A cup dried chickpeas (Do NOT use canned or cooked chickpeas)
  • 1 cup fresh parsley leaves, stems removed
  • ½ cup fresh dill, stems removed
  • ¾ cup fresh cilantro leaves, stems removed
  • 2 small onion, quartered
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 tbsp ground coriander
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • Oil for frying

Optional to make Original Spicy “hot” Falafel

  • 2-3 garlic cloves, peeled
  • Half a green hot pepper
  • ½ tbsp chili powder.

Instructions for Vegetarian Recipe Original Falafel

Add the chickpeas, beans, onions, herbs, (Optional garlic) to the large bowl of a food processor fitted with a blade.

Run the food processor about 40 seconds or more until forming a soft falafel mixture and all is well combined.

Add  to the mixture the addition of spices (Salt, black pepper, sesame seeds, cumin, cumin  ), and knead all well.

Important: If  you add extra baking powder on your Falafel  mixture, your balls will fall apart once they touch the hot oil. so just a flat ½ tsp baking powder will be enough to add to Falafel mixture and mix it all very well.

Just before frying, add the baking powder to the Falafel mixture and mix with a spoon.

Form the Falafel into small balls, (Optional decorated with sesame), then place over medium heat in a pot of hot oil for 5 minutes, or so until on the outside become crispy and medium brown.

Serve falafel hot next to small other plates; with bread, tomato and cucumbers, green salad. or simply Serve as a sandwich paired with various sauces and toppings as you prefer… Enjoy!

Extra Tips for Original Falafel Recipe :

To Refrigerate: You can transfer the uncooked falafel mixture to a container and  cover it tightly then refrigerate until ready to cook.

To freeze: Place uncooked falafel into a freezer bag and freeze for up to 1-2 months.  Falafel can be cooked from frozen by frying or baking.
